Sneak Preview: New Innova Solar 410C Inflatable Kayak for 2+ paddlers

The Innova product line has recently been acquired by the manufacturer, Gumotex of Czech Republic, now operating as Gumotex USA LLC out of Burlington, Washington. With the transition comes the introduction of several new products to the Innova kayak line, as well as an expanded line of accessories. In Europe, Gumotex manufactures over 20 models of inflatable kayaks, canoes and rafts, of which only a small portion has been available in the States to-date.

Innova recently introduced the new Solar 410C at this summer’s Outdoor Retailer show, a cross between the Innova Sunny and new Twist 2 LN, with expanded options for 2+ paddlers. The Solar features an open-cockpit design, and is best suited for recreational paddling on calmer waters, slow-moving rivers and lakes.

The new 13’5″ model weighs 37 lbs with a carrying capacity of 595 lbs., and is constructed from Gumotex’s Nitrylon material. Nitrylon is a 1200 denier, heavy-duty rubber-coated material which is puncture resistant, easy to clean, quick-drying and environmentally-friendly – no outgassing!

The kayak comes with two foot braces, two seats, tracking fin, Innova backpack, sponge, repair kit and instructions. By moving the adjustable seats, the kayak can be set up for one or two paddlers, still leaving space for extra gear, a small child or a dog. An optional third seat can also be purchased.
MSRP is $759 and will be available in two colors – green or red – in Spring of 2017. For more info, watch the Innova product pages at AirKayaks.com, or contact us to get on the notification list.

Sneak Preview: New 2017 Red Paddle Co Elite Inflatable Racing Boards with FFC

Red Paddle Co recently unveiled their exciting 2017 product line of inflatable paddle boards at Salt Lake City’s Outdoor Retailer Show.

New for 2017 is the revolutionary Forward Flex Control (FFC) stiffening rod, a patented system designed to give Red Paddle’s Elite race boards even more rigidity, ensuring a competitive edge.

The current Elite boards feature the innovative, patented Rocker Stiffening System (RSS) utilizing removable fiberglass battens which stiffen the side rails of the boards.

The additional FFC rod works in conjuntion with the RSS system. Before fully inflating the board and inserting the RSS battens, the FFC rod is clipped to a mounting lever near the top of the deckpad and put under compression, stiffening the board from midpoint to nose.

The new FFC system is part of Red Paddle’s racing development program. With the RSS and FFC systems, nose flex is removed, ensuring an incredibly rigid ride while retaining the portability and storage advantages of an inflatable. By removing nose flex on the board, the Elites become some of the fastest inflatables on the water.

The new 2017 Elite FFC racing boards – available in 12’6″ and 14’0″ sizes with an updated 25 inch width – should be arriving in late 2016. MSRP is $1629 and $1799 respectively. For details, watch the Red Paddle Co product pages on AirKayaks.com, or ask to get on the Notification List.

Save $200-$250 on a 2016 Red Paddle Co Sport Inflatable SUP

Coastal Sports, the US and Canadian distributor for the global Red Paddle Co inflatable SUP line, has announced a Super Summer Sports Sale. Now through August 31st, a limited amount of the popular Red Paddle Co Sport 11 and Sport 12-6 models will be available with a whopping $200-$250 off coupon code.

Red Paddle Co is a UK-based company, rapidly becoming the leader in inflatable paddle boards. The Red Paddle Co line now features 17 models ranging in size from 8’11 to 14’0, covering surfing, racing and everything else in-between.
The Sports are the perfect bridge in Red Paddle Co’s 2016 line – great for gliding across bays, lakes, up rivers. The secret lies in their shape. The narrower, bullet shape and longer water line make the Sports zippier and better performing than the Rides. They cut through the water cleanly with better glide, while the squared off tail provides more stability. And they’re easier to inflate and carry around than the Explorers.
Both models feature the patented RSS Rocker Stiffening System. For 2016, the introduction of MSL (Monocoque Structural Laminate) fusion technology resulted in a higher-quality, high-pressure material utilizing less glue. That – coupled with screen-printed graphics and the low-profile, heat-pressed deck pads – culminated in a  lighter board that is slightly more rigid, yet is also easier to roll up.
Which Sport to choose? The Sport 11’0” – with its smaller air volume – offers fast inflation, more weight-savings and great flat-water performance for riders up to 200 lbs, while the Sport 12’6” is also suited to longer touring trips and can be used by larger riders up to 300 lbs.

Each of the Red Paddle Co Sport models come complete with the Red Paddle roller-wheel backpack, repair kit, instructions, deep water fin, RSS battens, cell phone case and special Red Paddle Co Titan hand pump with pressure gauge, which makes large volume inflation to 16-22 psi easier, leaving you more time to paddle.
As a bonus, AirKayaks is offering a free Accent Max adjustable breakdown SUP paddle, free UPS ground shipping in the lower 48 states, and no US sales tax!
To save $200, visit the 2016 Red Paddle Co Sport 11-0 product page at AirKayaks.com and use coupon code 11sportsale or 126sportsale for $250 savings on the Red Paddle Co Sport 12-6.

New Ultralite 13.6 lb Twain Inflatable Tandem Kayak from Kokopelli Raft Co.

Last July, AirKayaks had the opportunity to test out a prototype version of Kokopelli Raft Company’s new Twain – an inflatable kayak/packraft for one or two paddlers, weighing in at a mere 13.6 lbs.

For those unfamiliar with the term, “packrafts” are loosely defined as a an inflatable raft weighing under 10 lbs, that can easily be packed/rolled up, making them a great choice for accessing remote locations. While the sport originated in Alaska, the popularity is rapidly expanding globally.

Three years ago, Kokopelli entered the steadily-growing packraft market, introducing the Hornet and Renegade whitewater and flatwater rafts and winning Gear Junkies “Best In Show Top Gear for 2016” at last summer’s Outdoor Retailer.

For 2016, the Kokopelli line-up consists of four whitewater models – the 91″ Nirvana and 104″ Nirvana XL – in self-bailing or integrated spray deck versions weighing in at 8.4 to 10.2 lbs. These are joined by the new touring series featuring the 91″ Castaway and 104″ Castaway XL solo models and the new 122″ Twain two-person version. Weights range from 7.3 to 13.8 lbs, with the Castaway XL and Twain sporting removable tracking fins and removable floors. All models come with an inflation “bag” weighing a mere 4 ounces, as well as an inflatable seat, though they also can be pumped up using a traditional hand or foot pump. Each of the models also includes a TiZip variation, which offers internal storage in the main tubes. Prices range from $875 to $999 dependent upon the model and options.

We were duly impressed with the prototype Twain – it was lightweight, easy to assemble and featured two inflation chambers for added safety. The kayak was easily paddled by one – making it a great choice for those with lots of gear. While some of the ultra-lightweight and shorter kayaks can bob around, the longer silhouette and added tracking fin allows the the Twain to be better seated in the water, and paddle straighter. The addition of an inflatable 4-inch 840 denier floor with side wells provides extra buoyancy and rigidity, allowing the paddler(s) to sit higher, keeping out of the water, yet could be removed for those interested in conserving weight. The open design also offers easy entry and exit as well as a higher paddling position to allow deeper and more efficient paddle strokes.

Eleven-inch diameter tubes constructed from a 210 denier, double-coated nylon, ensure stability on the water as well as providing some protection from swells. One-inch seam welds with reinforced tape ensure durability and the highest-quality, air-holding properties, capable of holding 650 lbs.

The new Kokopelli inflatable rafts are in transit, expected to be here approximately May 10th; Kokopelli completely sold out of their first production run earlier this year, with

2016 Advanced Elements AdvancedFrame, Sport and Convertible Kayaks in Stock!

This past week we picked up our first shipment of Advanced Elements 2016 models, including the red and green AdvancedFrame, updated Sport in orange, and the popular Convertible tandem in red. Limited quantities are available – and going fast.

New features for the best-selling AE1012 AdvancedFrame include an integrated 1-PSI pressure relief valve in the floor bladder, enhanced high-backed seating, redesigned hardware and the addition of velcro paddle holders. The popular model is now available in two colors – traditional red (AE1012R) and hi-vis green (AE1012G). MSRP $539.
The 2016 AE1007R Convertible in red has also been updated with the integrated pressure relief valve, improved seats and redesigned hardware. Like its sibling, the tandem will feature two colors – traditional red (AE1007R) and hi-vis green (AE1007G – available in June). MSRP $749. Matching decks for the green will be available this summer.
Due to factory relocation, the sought-after AdvancedFrame series has been difficult to obtain over the past several months. As explained by Clay Haller, President of Advanced Elements, Inc., “After nearly 15 years in business, and constantly growing demand for our kayaks, we decided it was time to build a new and much larger factory to accommodate growth for years to come.”
Knowing the popularity of the AdvancedFrame line, AirKayaks attempted to stockpile as much inventory as possible in the event of delays, but were still woefully short of demand.
In the fall of 2015, construction of the new factory was completed however the reopening took longer than anticipated, causing delays in spring 2016 production for several models.
Production has been in full swing for a few months now and Clay is thrilled with the progress. “With some key advancements in machinery and the experience of our seasoned management and production techs, we are seeing the same high-level quality – if not better – that Advanced Elements has always been known for.”
The current shipment featured limited quantities – which are selling quickly. More containers with the 2016 Advanced Elements AdvancedFrame and Convertible models (in both red and the new hi-vis green) are on the water, with expected availability in the first or second week of June. These will be followed with Advanced Elements Sport and Expedition models, towards the end of June.

The current yellow AE1009 Expedition had been retired and replaced with the upgraded, ocean blue Expedition AE1009B at $749. The 2016 Expedition features high-backed seating, diamond ripstop material, integrated storage hatch, sculpted riser bar, pressure relief valve, velcro paddle holders and redesigned hardware.  A variation of the blue Expedition was released in 2015 as the Expedition LTD with the same features in non-ripstop material. AirKayaks has a Special Purchase of the 2015 Expedition LTD model at $599.

The 2016 Sport AE1017 also features the integrated

Innova Kayak of Burlington, Washington, recently announced changes to their 2016 inflatable kayak line involving the popular PVC-free Twist and Swing models.

New for 2016, both models now feature Light Nitrilon (LN) material.

Light Nitrilon is a lighter-weight version of the rugged Nitrilon material used in the traditional Innova Sunny, Helios and Safari models. The Twist I and Twist II models have also had a design change. Both models now sport improved seating, with removable inflatable seats and beefed up foot braces. The new seating arrangement makes it easier to reposition the paddling point, optimizing paddling performance and comfort.

The Swing I, Swing II and Swing EX now sport improved seating and foot rests, while the cockpits have been stiffened for enhanced spray skirt attachment.
The first shipment of the new Twists and Swings have reached the US, and will start being distributed in late April. MSRP is the same as in 2015, at $449, $549 respectively on the Twist I and Twist II, and $599, $799 on the Swing I and Swing II.

New 2016 Red Paddle Co Inflatable Paddle Board SUP Lineup

We recently received details on Red Paddle Company’s exciting new inflatable SUP lineup being introduced for 2016.
Well-known throughout Europe, Australia and New Zealand, the Red Paddle Co line has steadily gained traction in the US. Noted for their ruggedness and performance, each of the Red Air boards utilize high pressure drop-stitch technology – allowing them to be inflated from 15-25 PSI – and feature quadruple rail construction, double layering, thick traction pads and fins.
For 2016, Red Paddle Co has 17 models for surfing, whitewater, recreation, touring and racing, ranging in size from 8’10” to 17’0. This includes the introduction of 3 new models, revamped graphics on several of the current models, and one retiring model. Prices are generally remaining the same as in 2015.

The major change for 2016 is the introduction of a technologically innovative new process named Monocoque Structural Laminate (MSL) fusion technology. Standard dropstitch construction consists of time-consuming hand-gluing of layers, potentially resulting in uneven glue application causing air leakages and bubbling. This innovative new technology involves fusing a second layer of polymer to the drop-stitch material in the raw material stage, reducing human errors. The end result is a higher-quality, high-pressure material utilizing less glue; this reduces the weight of each board approximately 20% while increasing the tension and making the boards slightly more rigid. The 2016 Red Paddle inflatable boards now weigh from 15 to 25 lbs, down from 20 to 34 lbs.
Many of the deck pads have undergone a redesign, now comprised of machine-pressed, thermosealed, low-relief finishes, utilizing less glue thus decreasing air bubbles. While most feature the “crocodile” finish deck pads, all boards needing extra grip also include a diamond pattern.
Additional tweaks include stainless steel d-rings for deck tie-downs and updated 6.75″ US fin boxes on models utilizing removable fins. Carrying handles are now softer, with several models featuring an additional rear carry handle with integrated d-ring loop.

One of the new models is the introduction of the 13′ 2″ Explorer Plus, a streamlined expedition board with a longer waterline. While sharing many similarities to the popular Explorer 12-6, the 13′-2 Plus boasts a slimmer, 30-inch beam with squared-off tail for stability. Extended bungee deck-lacing, multiple d-rings, 5 carrying handles and grip spots make this a great choice for longer excursions or situations where carrying capacity and performance are required. Carrying capacity 330 lbs, weight 24 lbs. MSRP $1649. The current Explorer 12-6 remains virtually the same with an added rear handle and updated graphics but now with a lower weight of 25 lbs. MSRP $1599.

At the opposite side of the spectrum, the new Whip 8-10 replaces the Surfstar 9-2. With a wide nose, narrow tail, a slimmer beam, the RSS batten system and removable
